Vietnam has made significant progress in ensuring gender equality and empowering women, as well as in its efforts to increase the participation of women in political leadership. According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report (June 2023), Vietnam has moved up 11 places in gender equality compared to 2022, from 83rd to 72nd out of 146 countries in the ranking. In particular, in the political field, Vietnam ranked from 106th in 2022 to 89th in 2023 (up 27 places), with a female parliamentary representation ranking of 53.
Women’s representation in parliament varies significantly across Europe and Vietnam, with Northern European countries leading the way and Eastern European countries facing tougher challenges .
Although progress has been made in many countries, achieving gender equality in political representation remains a work in progress.
